Wednesday
Night
Hike
June 16, 2004
Destination: Broads
Fork - Meadow
Weather: Clear Sky, few
clouds.
Present were: Mike, K7DOU;
Gordon, K7HFV; Randy, KG7GI; Clint, KA7OEI; Bruce, KI7OM; Randy, N7BRP
Destination: Meadow at end
of maintained trail.
Comments: The trail may have
been pretty steep, but it was long. It took a bit over 90 minutes
for the first of us to reach the meadow.
Question of the day: When
being chased by an angry moose, it is necessary just to outrun a slower
person?
Total distance: Approx.
3.7 miles
Altitudes in feet ASL (approx):
Vechicle/parking: 6020; Meadow above pond: 8270
Elevation gain/loss: 2252 feet,
approx.
Local sunset on this date:
9:01 pm
Images (300-1500k
each,
.JPG):
-
IMG00600 -
Very small
(approx 3/8" across) blue flower blooming in great abundance.
-
IMG00602 -
Very small
(approx 3/16" across) white flower - also blooming in great abundance.
-
IMG00603 -
Small
(approx 1/2" across) blue flower - but not the same variety as that
above.
-
IMG00606 - A
small
(approx 5/8" across) white flower.
-
IMG00608r -
Across
the canyon, looking to the north, from one of the small "meadows" along
the trail.
-
IMG00611 - Up
the
canyon, showing Dromedary (left) and O'Sullivan (right) Peaks.
(Did
I identify those correctly?) #615 is
a
wider view of the above.
-
IMG00632r -
Zoomed-in
view of Dromedary Peak (?). (Using 55-200mm zoom)
Note
the alpenglow.
-
IMG00634r -
Same
view as #615 (above) but with more alpenglow.
-
IMG00637 -
Clint,
blocking the view.
-
IMG00640 -
Mike,
K7DOU, inspecting the back of his eyelids.
-
IMG00648r -
Even
more alpenglow.
-
IMG00650 -
Randy,
N7BRP, basking in the Alpenglow.
-
IMG00651.-
Randy,
again...
-
IMG00652 -
Bruce,
KI7OM, in the alpenglow.
-
IMG00654 -
Mike,
K7DOU, also in the alpenglow.
-
IMG00662r -
Dromedary
Peak, with a ridiculous amount of alpenglow. (No, I didn't
exaggerate
the color...)
-
IMG00670 - A
picture
looking into the sun. Don't stare at the screen for too
long!
(I think that that's Bruce's head in the foreground.)
-
IMG00673 - A
moose
(probably a cow) having had its grazing interrupted. (This is
a cropped picture with some weird brightness/color adjustments to hide
the fact that it was slightly blurred due to camera movement. An
un-cropped - but still "adjusted" - version is here.)
Note: Those images with an
"r"
suffix have been re-adjusted to correct color/brightness issues.
To see the original version, remove the "r" from the URL.

Comments:
-
These images are 300k-1500k in size,
.JPG
and are in chronological order. I'm not sure why some of the
later
images are so large: I may have accidentally bumped the .JPG
compression
up when saving them.
-
No-one ever said that all of these
images
(or any of them) were good. Some of them have definite
focus/exposure
"issues."
-
EXIF data is present for most of the
images,
showing time, date, and precise exposure conditions. Recent
versions
of Irfanview will show this in
the "View->Image Information->EXIF" tab.
-
Unless noted, all images taken using
a Sigma
SD-10 camera using the 18-50mm zoom lens.
